Troubleshooting

Pins Not Showing on Map Dashboard

Encountering an empty map when you know your data is populated is a common point of friction. Unlike geocoding errors (where specific pins are missing), a complete absence of pins usually points to a "Logic Filter conflict" or a "Refresh Lag." Understanding the hierarchy of how GeoMap displays data will help you restore your visualization in seconds.

The "Invisible Conflict": Filter Logic Overlaps

GeoMap's powerful filtering sidebar is its greatest strength, but it can also be the cause of hidden data.
- **Sticky Filters:** If you (or a previous viewer) set a filter to "Status = Urgent" and then navigated away, that filter may still be active. Always use the "Reset All" button in the sidebar as your first troubleshooting step.
- **Mutually Exclusive Filters:** If you have multiple filters applied (e.g., "Region = West" AND "Priority = Low"), and no rows meet *both* criteria, the map will be empty. Check your Smartsheet data to ensure the intersection of your filters actually contains data.

Refresh vs. Cache: The 5-Minute Window

GeoMap polls Smartsheet every 5 minutes. If you just added data to your sheet 60 seconds ago, it likely hasn't crossed the bridge yet.
- **Manual Sync:** If you need an immediate update, visit the GeoMap configuration page and click "Sync Now." This forces an immediate refresh of the data pipeline.
- **Browser Cache:** Occasionally, your browser may hold onto an old version of the map interface. Try a "Hard Refresh" (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R) to clear the local state and pull the fresh visualization.

Emergency "Map Restoration" Checklist

1. **Verify Source Column:** Ensure the "Address" or "Lat/Long" column you mapped in the configuration still exists and contains data.
2. **Check OAuth Status:** If your Smartsheet token has expired, the map will fail to pull data. Re-authorize the connection in settings if you see a "Connection Error" alert.
3. **Hardware Acceleration:** In rare cases, some browser versions struggle with WebGL rendering. Try viewing the map in "Incognito Mode" to see if a browser extension is interfering with the map's ability to draw the pins.

SME Strategy: The "Default Global View"

To prevent confusion for your users, always save your map with a "Default Global View" that has all filters cleared and centers on your primary area of operations. This ensures that the first experience any stakeholder has is a fully populated map, eliminating the "Empty Map" panic and building confidence in your data visualization from the first click.
