FAQ: Mobile Access, Browsers, and Offline Use

Field crews are the primary users of time tracking. Here is how we support their mobile environment.

Do workers need to install an app?

No. Time Sheet Tool is a Progressive Web App (PWA). It runs in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge) on any iOS or Android device. This is crucial for temporary crews or contractors who may not be authorized to install corporate software on their personal devices. You simply send them a link (or a QR code), and they are ready to track time.

How does it look on small screens?

Unlike a "Responsive Spreadsheet" (which is just a flattened grid), our tool is Native-Mobile in design. It uses vertical scrolling, large touch targets for the time wheels, and a focused layout that shows only one or two fields at a time. This reduces the "Pinch and Zoom" frustration that leads to data entry errors in the field.

What happens in low-signal areas?

The Time Sheet Tool is optimized for Low-Bandwidth Stability. While it currently requires an active connection to submit data to Smartsheet (due to Smartsheet API constraints), it loads the initial form structure extremely quickly compared to the full Smartsheet application. For extreme remote areas, we recommend workers submit as soon as they reach a "Hotspot" or signal zone, as our lightweight data packets are much more likely to succeed on weak signals than a full sheet sync.
